"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."

"America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations"

...so here it is, a (very) brief history of Muse...

I wrote Muse around the time I wrote Rebellion and Nevermore Alone for the Jack Fox CD that David and I were working on, sort of a pre-Borderlands piece of work. At the time David was going through a (very) rough patch with his future bride, and he had just written Tape & Glue about it. During that time period, David and I were writing a ton of songs, and I was sitting at home in Heights one day and it occurred to me that we both have our muses (Shannon and Carrie, respectively) that inspire us to write.

So, I penned out Muse in approximately 5 minutes or less, and as my guitar had been tuned to DADGBD for Rebellion I worked on the chord structure there. It turned out to be two chords; C and D, and I was mortified at the thought of showing it to anyone, so I crumpled it up and threw it behind the couch (where another recent song, one that went to the tune of Beep Beep! had recently gone).

David came over to work on the Jack Fox CD and we were chatting and he asked what I'd been up to so I told him I wrote a crappy 2 chord song and it was behind the couch.

At which point he made me go get it. Then he read it. Then he made me play it. Then he said it was going on the CD.

If you know David, you know that's what he's like. It works for him most of the time ;-).

So, the song was written, like so many of my songs, for the muse of my life, Carrie, my good friend David, and the emotional trauma his love life gave me to work with. I think back to how I almost threw it away, and I am incredibly grateful that he saw more than me.

The End.

Muse copyright until 70 years past my death Kurt Griesemer

Swimming by, I go upstream and I catch your eye
I catch your dream, I catch your dream...

Nymph in the water, hiding in the reeds and no one can see you,
No one but me, no one but me...

You are...you are my muse.
You are...you are my muse

In my mind, the words you inspire they burn from my hands
Like fire for you, I'd burn for you

A thought or a touch or a glimpse of your eyes and I'm there beside you
I'm there inside...I'm there inside...

You are...you are my muse.
You are...you are my muse.

Some thoughts on the auto companies

It's not like Toyota and Honda are innocents, but at least they have put some money down on green tech. Here's some other thoughts:

Maybe Ford would be doing better if they sold this or this in the US instead of this and this.

Maybe GM would be doing better if they had developed this instead of this in the years 2000-2008.

And Chrysler has been basically hopeless, though they also have a plan for the future.

Oh, and remember these? GM was huge in making sure we wouldn't have them anymore.

When people discuss the bailout for the Big Three, it's good to remember that these companies have a history of stifling innovation, dumbing down their products for the American consumer, and smashing hard-won union rights. Oh, and let's not forget the potential colluding with oil companies in order to continue making a profit on 100 year old technology.

Thanks, and have a _great_ day.

An apology

Dear Senator Obama:

I apologize for the outrageous behavior that occurred during Senator McCain's rally in Waukesha. The name calling, fear mongering, and hatred are simply palpable. That Senator McCain and Governor Palin tacitly condone these actions is apparent; I however, am ashamed of my fellow Wisconsinites.

In fact, I grew up in Hartland, WI, not far from Waukesha where Senator McCain held his rally. I'd be lying if I said that I was completely shocked at their behavior. When people think of suburbs, in all its glorified xenophobia, you are thinking about Waukesha County and the Dela-Hart area.

There was one black family in my entire high school. If not for that fact that my dad had friends from work in Milwaukee, I might have grown up the same way, completely insulated from people different from me. Later in life I joined the military and learned what 'desegregation' really was as opposed to reading about it and nodding approvingly in class.

I'm not saying that everyone that attended that rally was a racist; rather you face now people that are afraid of the future and have been fed the Rovian lines of partisan hatred for 8 long years. Combine that with unease over racial relations (to put it mildly) and the fact that you are unapologetically to the left, and it is easy to see the catalyst for their reaction.

In the end, this apology will not help. As I write this I read about your campaign signs being vandalized in our small town of Cambridge, of peoples homes being egged; even that great line: "The only good democrat is a dead democrat" is quoted by a neighbor in our local paper.

Please stay safe-since you believe in god, may your god watch over you.

Sincerely,

Kurt

You do what you do better than anyone, because, as a Professional, you have standards.

The Professional is like the Crook in that they both desire money. But the Professional wants more than that. The Professional wants job satisfaction. It isn't sadism really, he just wants to be sure that the job is done, and done well. No hard feelings, it's just business. Professionals prefer to work alone, but will work in groups if given incentive.

The greatest weakness of a Professional is risk. A Professional is business-like, but can't resist a challenge. They often use the word "worthy opponent". People like that are easily baited. And if a Professional is eventually cornered (not easy to do), they might lose it.

Sample Professionals: Deathstroke, Bullseye, Revanche

Take The Supervillain Archetype Test at HelloQuizzy

Why are they allowed to tie us to the Middle East, terrorism, and tyrants? Are you a Republican? Are you proud of them?
"The Iraqi government now has tens of billions of dollars at its disposal to fund large-scale reconstruction projects. It is inexcusable for U.S taxpayers to continue to foot the bill for projects the Iraqis are fully capable of funding themselves," said Levin. "We should not be paying for Iraqi projects, while Iraqi oil revenues continue to pile up in the bank including outrageous profits from $4 a gallon gas prices in the U.S. We should require that U.S. taxpayers be reimbursed for the cost of large projects."

Whatever. Reimburse the families of the dead first, then pay for complete and total troop withdrawal. What an utter f@#$%#$ waste of time, money, and, most importantly, lives.

I wish I believed in hell-it has its benefits.

As I have more to post about, I feel less inclined to post...

What to say? Some things have been going very well (marriage, vacation, kids, trips, fiscal matters) while some have been only OK (band, kids, chores, socialbility) and some have been downright frightening (health, work).

Most things seem to resolve alright. New meds, for instance, and a definite sense of relief at work. The band is on the verge of losing another lead player (this time to a move to Portland) and I really haven't the energy to find another. On the plus side it focuses my efforts on the CD, which has languished as of late while we break in another lead player (er broke in...). See, I can finish the CD without a band to play live-it's just not as much fun.

My son recently volunteered with me at the WPT Open House and was excellent...later that weekend he put his gecko warming light face down on his carpet and melted a perfect circle into it...

Cora's doing great-Carrie too (huge project from Gurley's-yay!).

The wood pile is about 3/4 to where it needs to be before winter. That's good. The garden is doing really well thanks to Carrie (and chicken poop!).

I'm on meds which could be lifelong. That's bad, but in another month I'll go in for an update and request a specialist if it looks like the meds are going to continue. Better minor surgery than lifelong medication in my book.

Meh, as we all seem to say from time to time.

Currently I'm looking for a music publisher to send material to. When the CD is done, I'm going to send it off into the ether and see if I can get any bites in the music industry in any way whatsoever (writer, performer, commercials...really not fussy). So, if you have any contacts you've been hiding from me, now would be a great time to send them on :).

Maybe its time for a party...
