Just Too Tired to Sleep
Action Figure
"I can't shut my days out of my night times
I close my eyes and see my way ahead
I don't mind working hard no that's alright with me
But when I get home I'm just too tired to sleep."

I liked the pseudo-interview format; let's do that again:

When did you write this song and why?
About 2 years ago I got an email from Brent (formerly in the band) asking me to write him a song about being too tired to sleep. He was (and is) working a killer 60-70 hours a week, and eventually he'd leave the band because of the time commitment, and then he'd come back, and then he'd leave again... It took me a few minutes to send him the song back (I think 5, maybe ten. It just wrote itself, really.). He writes back: I can't wait to hear it! And I'm like, oh, right, I need music for it too...

Favorite Line:
It's also stolen:
Every woman and every man, has to work for what they get
I've been around a long long time and I ain't never seen it yet
Where the lemonade springs up from the ground and the money grows on trees
But when I get home you know I'm just too tired to sleep.

What kind of song is it?
Juke-joint country, complete with rolling keys...

Is it any good?
People who like a good old fashioned country songs (like Folsom Prison) enjoy it a lot. It is one of our more popular bar songs, and it's got a familiar story. Yes.

What was the most challenging part of writing this song?
Finishing it all in a few minutes to look impressive ;-). And the presenting it to the band as a completed piece that night.

What was the easiest part?
Hmm. The melody. Since I was force fed country music for years, writing a song like this was pretty easy.

Shout It Out Loud
Before we get started, know that I have successfully submitted the CD: Shout It Out Loud to the US Copyright office. We're getting closer, folks.

...and only one can survive!

...almost forgot the cut!Collapse )

Rain was the last new song to be cut.

You see, that's the thing about the rain...Collapse )

And that's the thing about Rain.

Why did you cut Song X? I love Song X!
So let's start with the song I've been most lobbied to a) redo, b) keep, c) compromise my personal vision on.

Cheers, tears, fears...hope.
"Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage."

"America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations"

Go here and dance!
Dance I said!

And the residents of Wisconsin wail in sympathy...
"The ice and snow that glazed pavement was blamed for numerous traffic accidents from Minnesota to Indiana, where police said a truck overturned and spilled 43,000 pounds of cheese, closing a busy highway ramp during the night in the Gary area."
